The Cambridge Genomics Laboratory is transitioning to using Epic Beaker as its main Laboratory Information Management System.
This will not affect the way that tests are ordered from the laboratory. Laboratory users should continue to complete our test order forms in full. Test requests should list the National Genomics Test Directory (opens in a new tab) Clinical Indication code (“R” or “M” number) which best describes the reason for testing; however it is also essential that any further pertinent clinical information is included in order to help inform laboratory analysis. Please also ensure that a clear pool email address is included on orders to enable safe and timely email despatch of reports.
The reports will look slightly different to the ones we have used previously. The key difference is that only the signature of the person authorising the report will appear, whereas previously we included the names of the analyst and final verifier. We will still continue to use dual reporting, so there is no change in the quality or veracity of the reports we issue,
During a time of such significant change there may be delays to reports being issued. We will minimise these as much as possible and we will let you know if any urgent samples are affected. The aim of this transition is to deliver a step change in our capacity and laboratory oversight, so hopefully any disruption will be short lived as we aim to develop an improved and resilient service.
In the meantime please contact us at cuh.geneticslaboratories@nhs.net if you have any queries.
