Our Immunology Genomics Community of Practice (CoP) is one of several CoPs we are currently supporting. See below for further details, including future meetings and how to join.
Lead Clinician
Matthew Cook, Honorary Consultant Immunologist (Cambridge University Hospitals) and Professor of Experimental Medicine (University of Cambridge)
Who is this CoP for?
Anyone working in:
- Immunology
- Infectious Diseases
About this Community of Practice
There is an expanding list of more than 450 inborn errors of immunity (IEIs) encompassing immune deficiencies, autoinflammatory diseases, early onset autoimmunity, and Mendelian allergy syndromes.
This makes genetically determined immune disorders one of the most heterogenous clusters of genetically determined diseases and creates considerable challenges for clinicians lacking experience or expertise in genomics.
Challenges to be tackled by this CoP include:
- under diagnosis of IEIs because of uncertainty about when to request genomics assessment
- errors and uncertainty in interpretation of genomics results
- accessing sophisticated phenotyping techniques to assist in selection and interpretation of genomic tests
