Clinical genetics teams can support you and your patients when ordering and interpreting genomics tests. In some Trusts, genomic testing is provided by East Genomics but you will be working with clinical genetics services (CGS) from other regions.

All clinicians should be aware of how to contact their local CGS to ensure patients are referred appropriately.
NHS England has produced an interactive map (opens in a new tab) to help you find the location, referral information and contact details for your local CGS.
About clinical genetics
CGSs are highly-skilled multidisciplinary teams of doctors, genetic counsellors and clinical scientists that provide individuals and families with:
- Clinical and laboratory diagnosis of genetic disorders
- Risk assessment and genetic counselling for patients who have a family history of an inherited disorder or a family cancer syndrome
- Predictive genetic testing including prenatal diagnosis for some genetic disorders.
Which clinical genetics services support services within the East Genomics region?
- Cambridge University Hospitals/East Anglia Regional Genetics Service
- Nottingham Department of Clinical Genetics (opens in a new tab)
- Leicestershire Clinical Genetics Service (opens in a new tab)
- Northwick Park/North West Thames Regional Genetics Service (opens in a new tab)
- Great Ormond Street/North East Thames Regional Genetic Service (opens in a new tab)
All of these services provide clinical support and genetic advice as required. In some cases, for examples where patients are pregnant or where predictive testing is necessary, someone from the clinical genetics team may see the patient.
Non-urgent advice: Where to direct tests and enquiries
If you are seeing patients at NHS Trusts in the East Genomics region genomic tests should be directed to the East GLH laboratories in Cambridge, Nottingham or Leicester.
If your are close to the boundary of the East Genomics region (parts of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex), you should refer patients to see clinical genetics departments following your usual clinical pathway, which might be outside of the East Genomics area. (See list below)
